President’s Message

As Summer approaches and remnants of a winter full of lots of snow fade, we are all looking forward to spending time enjoying Agnew Lake with our family and friends. Over the past months, the board of directors has been busy working/advocating for the membership on the following:

  • Launching of the BALRA Facebook page for members (see balra.ca/facebook)
  • Open Air Burning By-law: BALRA was successful in advocating to reduce the distance of a camp fire from 10 meters to 5 meters from any forest or woodland. This by-law can be found at baldwin.ca (under Our Government > By-Laws).
  • Municipal purchase of MNR property for resale. BALRA attended all the Township Council meetings, after we were notified of the project.
  • Boat launch dock request to MNR. Encouraged membership to provide feedback to MNR on this matter.
  • Operation of the walleye rearing pond for another season
  • Continued to advocate for an update to the Baldwin Fire response plan
  • FOCA membership renewal
  • Commencement of the Lake Steward position

Stocking of the rearing pond has been delayed due to a late spring and the release of walleye fry will occur sometime in July. We are looking for volunteers to help transfer the fry out of the pond and into Agnew Lake. Any help would be appreciated! Look for the official release date on the BALRA signs/website. Please contact Will Land at will@balra.ca if you are interested in volunteering.

We welcome your thoughts and ideas for new 2026-27 objectives for BALRA. Over the past year we lost another director and we welcome any interested members to join our board (contact president@balra.ca). Both land and lake access residents are welcome. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of our volunteers for their efforts and dedication to this association.

Finally, please note below that the BALRA AGM meeting date has been moved up to June instead of July. We are hoping that this earlier date will be more convenient as our summer time is very short and precious. I wish everyone good weather and a wonderful summer.

Kindest regards,

Paul Matte
