Baldwin Agnew Lake Residents Association

Our next Annual General Meeting (AGM) is Sunday, July 20, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.

President’s Message

Summer is just around the corner and we are all looking forward to spending quality time enjoying Agnew Lake and its surrounding area with our family and friends. Over the past months, the board of directors have been busy working/advocating for the membership on the following:

  • Successfully filed governing documents under the new Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (ONCA)
  • Attending meetings about the Niobium/NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material) relocation from the Nippissing district to the Township of Nairn/Hyman
  • Meeting with Magna Mining to discuss mining intentions in the Baldwin township and surrounding area. See attached slide show from Magna Mining. FYI.
  • Operation of the walleye rearing pond for another season
  • New sign at the corner of Hardwood road and Sunrise Shores road
  • Continued to advocate for an update to the Baldwin Fire response plan
  • Discussion of the new Fire by-law and associated restrictions in Baldwin

Stocking of the rearing pond was successfully completed a short time ago and the release of walleye fry is scheduled for July 6th. We are looking for volunteers to help transfer the fry out of the pond and into Agnew Lake. Any help would be appreciated! Look for the official release date on the BALRA signs/website. Please contact Will Land at will@balra.ca if you are interested in volunteering.

The Township of Baldwin released a new fire by-law last year. This by-law can be found at baldwin.ca (under Our Government > By-Laws). BALRA has discussed and reviewed this by-law and would like to also reach out to the membership for input. The intention is to improve the by-law if required. Your input on this new by-law is welcome at the AGM.

We welcome your thoughts and ideas for new objectives for BALRA and for any interested members to join the board of directors (contact president@balra.ca). I want to take this opportunity to thank all of our volunteers for their efforts and dedication to this association.

Kindest regards,

Paul Matte
